Interchallenge recognizes the following membership categories:

 1.               Certified, open to individuals who are professionally engaged in interpreting, translating or closely related work who have passed professional certification exams (available from the American Translators Association, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. federal government, and various universities in the United States and abroad)

 2.               Active, open to individuals who are completely bilingual and who have worked in the field of interpreting and/or translating for at least two years on a full-time basis.  Their professional experience is demonstrated by client references and/or alternative supporting documentation.

 3.               Corporate membership is open to translation agencies, companies and institutions with an interest in the translation or interpretation professions. Membership is in the name of the institution, not an individual.

 4.               Student, open to individuals who submit evidence of at least half-time enrollment in translation or interpretation-related courses at an educational institution in the U.S.A. or abroad. This membership category is limited to four years and is no longer valid upon the student's passing the appropriate certification examination.
